00:13:46 UserDoris: Thank you Wayne.
00:14:35 KellyV: am I late to the party?
00:17:54 wayne: Have you studied anything about Galectin-3 which I read is being claimed as potentially modulating immune responses by binding to glycoproteins nthe surface of immune cells, affecting their activation, differentiation, and cytokine production. I'm reading that it is possibly playing a role in neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases, including ALZ

00:20:22 wayne: .... Gal 3 can promote pro-inflammatory activation of microglia, leading to the release of inflammatory cytokines which contribute to neuronal damage.. Comments?

00:23:06 wayne: I saw Gal-3 detected in CSF and brains tissues of ALZ patients, suggesting a biomarker. of disease... (also binds to amyloid beta which I understand led to foing down some blind alleys after the Photo Shopped Nature paper.
00:27:37 UserDoris: Dr. Isaac Eliaz taught about Galectin-3 that drives many chronic metabolic diseases. It is involved in glucose homeostasis, immune responses, and inflammation, and its expression is often elevated in individuals with metabolic diseases.

00:44:55 Susan: Our bodies can make Choline?
00:47:06 Jeffrey: Replying to "Our bodies can make ..."

The body produces some Choline in the liver but the body, unfortunately, does not produce enough.
00:47:42 KellyV: Replying to "Our bodies can make ..."

Yes, the human body can make choline, but not in sufficient amounts to meet all of its needs. Therefore, choline is considered an essential nutrient, meaning you must get a significant portion of it from your diet.
Here's how it works:
The body synthesizes a small amount of choline in the liver via the PEMT (phosphatidylethanolamine N-methyltransferase) pathway.
However, this endogenous production is not enough to support optimal health, especially in situations of high demand (e.g., pregnancy, lactation, liver health, brain development).
Dietary sources of choline:
Eggs (especially the yolk)
Beef liver
Chicken
Fish
Soybeans
Cruciferous vegetables (like broccoli and Brussels sprouts)
Why choline is important:
It's critical for brain development, cell membrane structure, methylation reactions, and neurotransmitter synthesis (acetylcholine).
In summary: Your body makes some choline, but you need to eat foods rich in choline to meet your full daily requirement.
