Amid the swirl of sensational news, emotional currents, and personal biases, staying sober-minded is a constant challenge. Confronting our tendency toward prejudice and conformity, and recognizing how easily we can be swayed from logic and rational thinking by emotions, delusions, and misunderstandings, is an unending struggle. Yet it is essential, always, to engage in this confrontation with ourselves and with the world around us if we are to become and remain the clear-thinking contrarians we aspire to be.
