Titus Chapter 3 - Marianne Manley
Did Peter and Paul preach the same thing?
After we are saved we should be careful to maintain good works.
Paul instructs Titus to tell the believers to obey their government and to be ready to do every good work. We should not speak evil about anyone or to argue with them but be gentle and obedient to all.
For we all used to be foolish and disobedient to God before we were saved. But once we understood God’s kindness and believed that the Son of God died to pay for “our sins” (in mystery also, not just for Israel) on the cross, was buried, and rose again three days later (1 Cor. 15:3, 4), then we were saved from sin, Satan, self, and eternal torment.
All mankind gave God every reason not to love us, but none of them changed His mind (Rom. 5:8, 8:39).
It was not any righteous work of our own that saved us, but God had mercy on us and decided to give spiritual life to those who were spiritually dead. We were washed and regenerated by receiving the Holy Ghost in us (Titus 3:5; 2 Tim. 1:14). Jesus Christ shed the Holy Ghost on us abundantly (Titus 3:6). We were declared justified because of our faith and heirs of eternal life with Christ.
Paul wants the faithful saying that believers have been spiritually regenerated repeated and affirmed constantly so that we can be careful to “maintain good works” (Titus 3:8). We do a good work when we join God in what He is doing knowing His will: “Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth [understand the heavenly Mystery dispensation of grace to the body of Christ that God gave Paul in Eph. 3:1:9]” (1 Tim. 2:4).
But we are not supposed to get into arguments with people who insist on following Christ in His earthly ministry under the law (Rom. 15:8; Gal. 4:4). Because it is unprofitable and useless to continue to try to convince someone who will not learn about the distinctive ministry of the apostle Paul and insist on following doctrine outside Romans to Philemon, our 13 letters of instruction. After we have sincerely tried twice using the King James Bible to help a wrong divider to be a right divider (2 Tim. 2:15) then leave the heretic and move on to someone else who may have a believing heart. Because the one speaking against the truth has been overthrown by false doctrine, and sins, condemning himself (if they are saved, they will still get into heaven but will have loss of reward as stated in 1 Cor. 3:15).
Paul wants Titus to join him in Nicopolis as soon as his replacement arrives. Be sure to show hospitality to Zenas the lawyer and Apollos (who probably brought this letter and other epistles of Paul) are doing a good work and those on Crete should also learn to maintain good works so their lives will not be unfruitful.
