Call to Holiness and Separation (vv. 1–5):

God tells Israel: “Do not do as they do in Egypt or Canaan.”

They are to follow God’s statutes and judgments, not cultural norms.

Obedience to God leads to life (v. 5) — a principle quoted by Paul in Romans 10:5 and Galatians 3:12.

Prohibited Sexual Relationships (vv. 6–18):

Detailed list of forbidden sexual relations, primarily within close family:

No sex with a close relative, step-parent, sibling, aunt, daughter-in-law, sister-in-law, etc.

These rules aim to protect family integrity, dignity, and purity.

Other Sexual Sins Forbidden (vv. 19–23):

Prohibits:

Sexual relations during a woman’s menstrual period (v. 19)

Adultery with a neighbor’s wife (v. 20)

Child sacrifice to Moleque (v. 21) — often linked to sexual rituals

Homosexual acts (v. 22) — “an abomination”

Bestiality (v. 23) — a perversion and defilement

Warning of Defilement and Consequences (vv. 24–30):

God says these sins defile the land, and because of them, He is driving out the Canaanites.

If Israel commits the same sins, they too will be vomited out of the land (v. 28).

God calls His people to obey and not defile themselves as the nations did.

Spiritual Lessons:
God sets moral boundaries that are not based on culture but on His holiness.

Sexual sin is not just personal; it affects families, communities, and nations.

Holiness involves obedience in every area of life, including sexuality.

The land of promise is not unconditional—it requires the people to walk in obedience.

God’s moral laws reflect His character and are meant for human flourishing.

In Christ, we are called to live counterculturally and honor God with our bodies (1 Corinthians 6:18–20).
