On May 10, 2025, at approximately 4:00 p.m., a disturbing incident unfolded in the Glendale neighborhood of Queens, New York, near the intersection of 67th Place and Central Avenue. A 31-year-old man, identified as Feliz Enrique, approached a 9-year-old girl who was playing outside. According to Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz, Enrique asked the girl her name before suddenly striking her across the face with his right hand. The force of the blow knocked the child to the ground, leaving her with bruises on her arm and back, a bloody lip, and loosened teeth. Surveillance video captured the unprovoked attack, which shocked onlookers in the area.
An off-duty NYPD sergeant, Sebastian Hajder, witnessed the assault and immediately intervened, along with two bystanders. As they attempted to detain Enrique, he resisted violently. During the struggle, Enrique bit off the tip of Sgt. Hajder’s right index finger, causing permanent disfigurement, and also bit the sergeant’s knee. Despite the injuries, the group managed to hold Enrique until on-duty officers arrived to arrest him. The young girl was taken to a hospital for treatment and is expected to recover physically, though the emotional impact of such a random act of violence remains significant. Sgt. Hajder also received medical attention for his injuries.
Enrique, who was on parole for a prior attempted murder conviction after serving only seven years, faces multiple charges, including assault, harassment, and endangering the welfare of a child. After his arrest, he reportedly told detectives, “This isn’t the first time this happened,” and claimed he had previously assaulted the girl’s father, though no evidence supports this statement. He was arraigned on May 14, 2025, and remains in custody.
