BioShock: Remastered | Jack's descent into Rapture

Gameplay Part 1

BioShock is a shooter unlike any other, loaded with unique weapons and tactics. Complete with an arsenal of revolvers, shotguns, and grenade launchers, players will be forced to genetically modify their DNA to become an even deadlier weapon.

In this playthrough we cover:

Level 1: Welcome to Rapture:
After a mysterious plane crash over the Atlantic in 1960, Jack—the silent protagonist—finds himself the sole survivor. He swims to a nearby lighthouse and discovers a submersible bathysphere that descends into the ocean depths, revealing Rapture, an underwater city built by industrialist Andrew Ryan as a utopia free from government and religious oversight. But the dream is shattered. Guided over radio by a man named Atlas, Jack begins to uncover the chaos that has gripped Rapture. Mutated citizens known as Splicers roam its corridors, and the eerie presence of Little Sisters and their hulking Big Daddy protectors hint at twisted science gone wrong. The level ends with Jack narrowly escaping death, setting the tone for the haunting journey ahead.

Level 2: Medical Pavilion:
Now fully immersed in the horrors of Rapture, Jack enters the Medical Pavilion, where Atlas hopes he can find a way to reach his family. But the path is blocked by the deranged Dr. J.S. Steinman, a once-celebrated plastic surgeon now obsessed with "perfecting" beauty through violent, grotesque means. Jack battles waves of Splicers and navigates gory surgical rooms and blood-soaked corridors, eventually acquiring new genetic abilities called Plasmids—including telekinesis and incinerate. This level introduces key gameplay systems like hacking, exploration, and environmental combat. After confronting and defeating Steinman, Jack gains access to a bathysphere, pushing deeper into Rapture’s nightmare.

Level 3: Neptune’s Bounty:
Following Atlas’s desperate pleas, Jack heads to Neptune's Bounty, a once-bustling fishing dock now infested with Splicers and overrun by corruption. Here, he encounters Peach Wilkins, a paranoid smuggler who reluctantly offers help—but not before forcing Jack to retrieve photographic evidence of enemy Splicers using a newly acquired research camera. Meanwhile, Atlas’s story becomes more personal, revealing that his wife and son are supposedly trapped nearby. The level also expands on Rapture’s underworld and introduces the concept of Adam and Eve, substances central to Plasmid use and genetic modification. Jack faces tougher enemies and moral choices, especially around the fate of the Little Sisters—either harvest them for power or rescue them to restore their humanity.

Level 4: Smuggler’s Hideout:
Jack finally reaches the Smuggler’s Hideout, a hidden base used by Atlas and his allies to resist Ryan’s control. Atlas pushes Jack to open the path to Arcadia, where his family is allegedly waiting. But just as escape seems near, Andrew Ryan launches a brutal counterattack. He seizes control of the bathysphere and, in a devastating twist, destroys it with Atlas’s wife and child inside—assuming they were ever truly there. Atlas is overcome with grief and fury, and Jack is now drawn into a personal war against Ryan. The betrayal solidifies the game’s themes of manipulation and trust, driving the story into darker, more morally complex territory.
