Welcome back to the homestead! In this follow-up to my carrot seed sprouting video, I share the successes and challenges of sprouting Oxheart and Scarlet Nantes carrot seeds. Despite heavy rain preventing me from ground planting the seeds, I was still happy to be able to sprout these seeds in just 3-4 days using a simple petri dish method! I also dive into a fascinating microscope discovery—tiny hair-like structures on the seeds. Are they roots or mycelium? Join me as I explore and look for ways of faster germination of carrot seeds. Please leave your sprouting tips in the comments!

Make it a Great Day!

We are full time homesteaders at Pioneer Mountain Homestead in the Appalachian Mountains of south central Pennsylvania. We have a sawmill, produce garden honeybees, layer hens, layer ducks, pigs, and goats. Additionally, we provide boat and camper storage to nearby visitors of Raystown Lake. We also sell firewood and provide milling services. Our journey is to be as self-reliant as we can be; to live as much as we can from the resources we have at hand; to effectively be productive with as minimal environmental impact as possible; to raise food in an organic manner; and to give back to our community through education or demonstration. We are always learning as well. Life is an adventure! We enjoy learning from others and like seeing what other people are doing, too. - Bren and Chuck
