How Commercial Drones Turn Deadly In Gaza
In Gaza, the sound of drones can be heard everywhere.
An analysis by Al Jazeera’s digital investigations team, Sanad, has revealed that Israel is repurposing commercial drones to use as weapons of war in the Strip.
And as drones become ever more accessible, the line between their civilian use and their military use is becoming increasingly blurred.
A Gaza pediatrician is mourning the deaths of nine of her ten young children after an Israeli airstrike hit their home.
The oldest child killed was 12 and the youngest, just a few months old, when their house in Khan Younis was struck.
Gaza media's office says it amounts to a war crime.
Al Jazeera’s Mmalegabe Motsepe reports.
Israeli forces have fired on a large crowd of Palestinians in Al Mawasi, an area designated by Israel as a so-called 'safe zone.' The refugee camp has been repeatedly targeted by Israel in recent weeks. Seven people were killed and 50 others wounded by the drone strike. Thousands of Palestinians are sheltering there after being forced from their homes elsewhere in the Strip. At least 30 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli attacks across Gaza on Saturday.
Al Jazeera's Hind Khoudary reports from Deir al Balah in Central Gaza.
Displaced Palestinians in Gaza are sheltering in makeshift tents at the overcrowded Gaza seaport, fleeing relentless Israeli bombardment despite so-called "safe zone" warnings. With no running water, sanitation, or safe drinking sources, families describe living in "landfill-like" conditions, dumping waste into the contaminated sea and contracting skin diseases. Gaza’s seaport, once a connection to the world, now symbolizes Gaza’s isolation, as survivors endure starvation and indiscriminate attacks. Residents recount being ordered by Israeli forces to flee west, then south, only for both areas to be bombed. Makeshift camps lack basic survival necessities, leaving thousands exposed to the elements and ongoing violence. One displaced person lamented, "This is not a place for humans," comparing the dire conditions to uninhabitable ruins. The report concludes with Gaza’s seaport standing as a grim testament to collapsed dignity and fading hope under siege.
Al Jazeera’s Hani Mahmoud reports from Gaza City.
