The singularity presents both utopian and dystopian scenarios. Optimists, like Ray Kurzweil, foresee AI solving major global issues—curing diseases, alleviating poverty, and advancing technology—potentially integrating human and machine intelligence. Conversely, pessimists highlight existential risks: a misaligned AI might pursue objectives that jeopardize human survival, such as prioritizing an unintended goal that consumes critical resources, disregarding human needs. Key concerns include value misalignment, loss of control, and unforeseen consequences.
