MZTV 1742: "All is Allowed Me"; One of Paul's Greatest Truths

It is difficult for the human mind to wrap itself around Paul’s truth that “all is allowed me” (1 Corinthians 10:23). The religious human especially hates having no prohibitions. Because without a prohibition, the religious person can’t excel other people. And one of the few joys in the life of the religious person is outperforming others. This is why the religious person will always resist and even deny this sweeping truth.

A companion truth is Romans 8:1, “Nothing is now condemnation to those in Christ Jesus.“ I like to relate this truth to the “all is allowed me“ truth of First Corinthians 10:23. Think about it. If nothing is now condemnation, then all must be allowed me. No matter if you start at Romans 8:1, or you start at Second Corinthians 10:23, you end up with a shocking companion truth. If nothing is condemnation, then all must be allowed me. If all is allowed me, then there cannot be any condemnation.

Don’t you love how the word of God complements itself? And don’t you hate how religious people always try to condemn those who appreciate their freedom in Christ?
