Rep. Crockett wants to lead the Oversight Committee and vows to investigate Trump

"If the Democrats take control after next year’s midterm elections—whether it's the House or the Senate—do you think they’re going to push to investigate the Trump family and all the cryptocurrency acquisitions they’re getting?

Well, Alex, I’m glad you asked. Here we go. Listen, as long as we end up taking the House—and I fully anticipate that we will—and we’re going to work hard to obviously help our colleagues in the Senate too, then, as someone who serves on the Oversight Committee and hopes to lead it, I can guarantee you that we will do what we’re constitutionally sworn to do as members of the House. That means we will conduct oversight. That means we will investigate. We will look into whether this president himself has violated the Emoluments Clause, for example, by receiving a $400 million jet from the Qataris.

We will also make sure to investigate all these business ventures they have going. Think about it, Alex: they went after Hunter because he sat on a board. Think about how much money they’re raking in—whether we’re talking about the next golf resort they’re building in Qatar, or about them leveling Gaza—as they’ve said—and how they’ve talked about how nice it would be to have beachfront property there. Whether we’re talking about this crypto scam—a scam they didn’t even want to step into and show their faces.

Let me tell you: we are not short on things to investigate to determine whether there have been not just violations of the law, but definitely violations of our Constitution as a whole.

Did you just break some news? Did you just say you expect to lead that committee?

Yes, absolutely. You know, sadly, we’re going to be saying goodbye to our dear colleague Jerry Conley this Tuesday, and there will have to be an election to determine who will lead the Oversight Committee. And ultimately, I hope and pray my colleagues will see that I can bring what we need as a team to make sure we move forward and restore confidence in the American people by letting them know they have a real fighter—someone who won’t back down, even in the face of all the threats that will come my way—because God knows I get death threats every day.

But at the end of the day, I truly believe that God will never abandon me, and that’s why I will fight with courage and ferocity for the American people."
