05.11.25 "The Catholics and the World Have a New Pope"

The religious news of the week (and this was truly "religious" news) is the Conclave of 133 Roman Catholic Cardinals elected a new Pope, and for the first time in history it is an American. (So much for the narrative that America's position on the world stage is in decline! Apparently not.) Cardinal Robert Prevost, (age 69) born in Chicago, Illinois is now officially Pope Leo XIV. While being an American let's acknowledge that Cardinal Prevost spent much of his Catholic career as a missionary in Peru. He will hopefully have a broad world wide perspective.

His first words as Pope Leo XIV were, "Peace be with you." Nice! I like peace. Also this phrase is in ACIM 3 times. Here's one, "Peace be to you to whom is healing offered. And you will learn that peace is given you when you accept the healing for yourself." (Tx.27.53) This is a great peace and healing quotation.

Pope Leo XIV wore the pope's traditional red cape during his 1st public appearance (which Pope Francis had eschewed) possibly signifying a return to a time of more tradition, honor, and greatness.

Cardinal Robert Prevost, now Pope Leo the XIV, is from the religious order of St. Augustine. The unifying principle of the order of St. Augustine is, "Live together in harmony, being of one mind and one heart on the way to God." Sounds very consistent with the teachings of ACIM. "He wills to keep it in perfect peace, because you are of one mind and spirit with Him." (Tx.5.92) I was born, baptized, and raised a Catholic so perhaps I have an affinity for the election of a new Pope. I also consider myself a religious person so I have a natural tendency for celebrating religious events. This is a time of celebration for Catholics the world over, and I want to bless and join that energy as well, especially when much of the spiritual foundation of the event aligns so clearly with the teachings of ACIM.

Of course being American also gives me a connection for being excited to have an American Pope. It feels like the universe has strangely mirrored with the Make American Great Again movement. (That will probably get me in trouble. lol) I also just remembered that the last official state visitor the previous Pope Francis had, only one day before he passed, was Vice President J.D. Vance. Makes you wonder.
