Gifts and Conflicts of Interests - Government Ethics in less than 10 minutes

Former military lawyer with nearly 15 years experience in federal law explains the Federal Standards of Conduct prohibitions on gifts and conflicts of interest for federal executive branch employees. Gifts from government contractors are usually bribes in violation of federal criminal law designed to induce the federal government employee to take an official action to benefit the contractor. Conflicts of interest arise when federal executive branch employees take an official action for their personal benefit or for the personal benefit of someone close to them. Financial conflicts of interest are federal crimes.
