DAY 17 || CAMINO DE SANTIAGO (2025)

Today heralded an epic quest of 23 miles total and many of it uphill.

While leaving Leon I ran into a seasoned pilgrim who recognized me from my videos.

“You walk a lot!” he said.

He walks 8 months of the year. We’ve been pacing each other for the past 6 days.

Weather was awesome but wind was my nemesis, multiplied by highway walking, dirt and exhaust blown in my face.

The last 5km was especially unceasing and I finally turned on my tunes—AC/DC came to the rescue. “Thunderstruck” is a song to keep anyone inspired!

Surprise!

Thought I booked a different albergue and ended up in the same damn one as the last 2 times. It’s difficult to keep all the names recalled.

The manager was visibly rude to me because I was American.

This happens enough times to notice on the Camino, although it doesn’t dampen my spirits or perspective of Spain.

Pilgrims were cooking up some gourmet meals in our tiny kitchen.

We were packed in like sardines into a tiny uncomfortable room that evening and the symphony of snoring and farting was like none else. I ran out of there early before the sun came up.
