BioShock: Remastered | Fontaine's betrayal and turning into a Big Daddy
Gameplay Part 3 (Finale)
BioShock is a shooter unlike any other, loaded with unique weapons and tactics. Complete with an arsenal of revolvers, shotguns, and grenade launchers, players will be forced to genetically modify their DNA to become an even deadlier weapon.
In this playthrough we cover:
Level 8: Hephaestus:
Jack descends into Hephaestus, Rapture’s massive geothermal power facility, where Andrew Ryan resides. As he navigates industrial corridors and furnace chambers, the tension between Jack and Ryan escalates, amplified by cryptic audio logs and Ryan’s disembodied voice challenging Jack’s autonomy. Jack constructs an EMP bomb with Dr. Yi Suchong’s notes to breach Ryan’s office. In a now-iconic moment, Jack confronts Ryan—who calmly reveals the horrifying truth: Jack has been conditioned since birth to obey the phrase “Would you kindly?” Stripped of free will, Jack murders Ryan with a golf club, even as Ryan mocks the illusion of choice. The level ends as Atlas reveals his true identity: Frank Fontaine, a criminal mastermind who manipulated Jack from the start.
Level 9: Rapture Central Control:
With Ryan dead and Fontaine’s betrayal revealed, Jack races to Rapture Central Control, where Fontaine takes over the city’s systems. Jack reunites with Tenenbaum and the Little Sisters, who help him escape Fontaine’s traps. Tenenbaum becomes a guiding voice, revealing Fontaine’s role in Jack’s creation and conditioning. With her help, Jack breaks through the final layers of his programming and begins his pursuit to end Fontaine’s domination.
Level 10: Olympus Heights:
Now working with Tenenbaum, Jack awakens in Olympus Heights, the luxurious district of Rapture and a monument to the city’s failed dreams. Here, Jack uncovers his own origin—learning through audio logs that he’s Ryan’s illegitimate son, genetically engineered to age rapidly and obey trigger phrases. Fontaine continues taunting Jack, using the remaining triggers to hinder him. Tenenbaum leads Jack to search for Lot 192, a chemical solution capable of overriding Fontaine’s control.
Level 11: Apollo Square:
Still suffering from Lot 192’s side effects, Jack stumbles through Apollo Square, once Rapture’s civic center, now a desolate ruin filled with death and failed uprisings. The level reveals the class war that fractured Rapture, including scenes of medical abuse and improvised prisons. Jack finds the second dose of Lot 192 in Fontaine’s clinic, regaining control over his mind. Apollo Square offers a stark glimpse into the suffering caused by both Ryan and Fontaine.
Level 12: Point Prometheus:
Fontaine retreats into Point Prometheus, Rapture’s military research hub, forcing Jack to become a Big Daddy to pursue him. Jack undergoes grotesque modifications—armor, pheromones, and voice changes—to bond with a Little Sister, who leads him through hostile labs teeming with Splicers. The section highlights the tragic origins of Big Daddies and the twisted science behind them, deepening the emotional stakes as Jack takes on the protector role.
Level 13: Proving Grounds:
In the Proving Grounds, Jack escorts a Little Sister through enemy-filled corridors, offering a final look at the bond between protector and child. Jack must defend her as she harvests ADAM from corpses, a familiar mechanic now steeped in personal meaning. Her unwavering trust in Jack underscores the moral journey. With her help, he reaches Fontaine’s final chamber, ready for the ultimate confrontation.
Level 14: Fontaine:
In a high-security chamber, Jack faces Frank Fontaine, now grotesquely overcharged with ADAM. The fight unfolds in stages, as Fontaine unleashes various plasmid powers. The Little Sisters intervene mid-fight, repeatedly injecting him with their ADAM needles, weakening him enough for Jack to finish the battle with the help of the Little Sisters as they strike the final killing blows. Fontaine’s death ends his brutal reign and halts Rapture’s descent into madness.
Good Ending (Saved All the Little Sisters):
The rescued Little Sisters escort Jack to the surface, offering him a chance at redemption. In the final scenes, we see them grow up free and safe, with Jack not as an experiment—but as a father.
