DAY TWENTY-THREE || CAMINO DE SANTIAGO (2025)

This 8-hour trek started off at the misty summit of O Cebreiro and winded up and down over hills and pastures so beautiful, it took my breath away.

NatGeo moments abounded with both wild and domestic animals, including a shocking encounter with a farm guard dog.

I treated myself to delicious local fare throughout quaint Spanish villages.

Somehow the McGyver flip flops with cardboard and duct tape were making it across the entire country of Spain.

Remarkably, my feet and legs felt great and still no blisters.

I caught up with my friend Aaron in the cute town of Samos and we made a choice: Share a nice private room, or experience the more authentic ancient pilgrim accommodations in a cold, bare bones monastery.

He let me make the call and I went for the monastery because… it seemed like a more interesting storytelling opportunity.

Maybe we should have opted for the private room, because the monastery was so cold that night, all the pilgrims without sleeping bags had to wear all their clothes to make it through the frigid night.

Oh yeah… and I got bedbug bites at that monastery.
