Bible Study: II Corinthians Part V

We look at the differences between commandments for Jews being prepared for the tribulation and the Kingdom, and the commandments of grace. We ask" "what kind of repentance is required today for salvation?" And it does not start with repentance from one's sins.

The heart and the mind are shown to be the seat of decision, responsibility and the sin nature we all develop. We look at the evolution of secular language, away from responsibility and toward psychology. We study what it means to "put on the new man."

We see some of the major themes coming into view in Paul’s grace curriculum :

Salvation is by faith, through grace, and not of works.

The believer is a new creature.

This new creature is able to put on his new man, his new self, who is in the image of God.

The new man is renewed in his mind and spirit.

The instructions for doing all of these are found exclusively in the scripture, and so this cleansing comes by studying the Word of God

What is the definition of repentance, and what repentance is required today for salvation? Gal 2:16, “…even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ.” And Eph 2:8, “…ye saved through faith…Rom 10:8, “confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.” Rom 10:13, “whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

I Cor 1:21, “it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.” I Cor 15:1, “I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved…” Eph 5:2-8, “… (by grace ye are saved;)… …through faith…” II Thes 2:10 says men perish, “…because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.” I Tim 1:16, “I obtained mercy… …for a pattern to them which should hereafter believe on him to life everlasting…”

Titus 3:5, “according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour; That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life. This is a faithful saying, and these things I will that thou affirm constantly, that they which have believed in God might be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable unto men.”

When researching “what the Bible says about salvation” I was led by Google to Crossway.org, (they publish the Ersatz Version of the English Bible, the ESV https://www.crossway.org/articles/10-key-bible-verses-on-salvation/#:~:text=Romans%201%3A16&text=But%20Paul%20says%20it%20is,that%20brings%20people%20to%20salvation). But when the gospel is delivered in order, with love, and with proper doctrine, the results are godly edification like Paul produced among the Corinthians.
