Christians and Hebrew Israelite Christians (Christianlites) often say Zechariah 13:7 is about their New Testament idol--that human sacrifice on the cross--but it is NOT. Zechariah 13:7 is not about any particular shepherd but rather the shepherds of Israel in general. In the Septuagint translation, it says shepherds (plural) not shepherd (singular); YAH is simply saying that He will smite the shepherd(s) of Israel and their flocks (the Israelites) would be scattered. He refers to the shepherd(s) as His fellow (or citizen as the Septuagint says) because they are the shepherds of His people, Israel. In Deuteronomy 28:29, when YAH says, "you (Israel) shall not prosper in your ways:" IN YOUR WAYS must be emphasized. As long as we're doing things in our own ways, we will NOT prosper. We must do things IN YAH'S WAYS, then and only then will we prosper. In the same verse, when YAH says, "and no man shall save you" He means just that -- NO MAN SHALL SAVE US. That dead man on the cross couldn't save himself and he can't save us either because NO MAN SHALL SAVE US. "YAH IS NOT A MAN, that He should lie; neither the son of man, that He should repent: has He said, and shall He not do it? or has He spoken, and shall He not make it good?" (Numbers 23:19) Zechariah 12:8 says that the weakest among the people of Jerusalem will be as mighty as king David because king David was a mighty warrior; he had fought in many battles before and after becoming king of Israel. While his fight with Goliath is the most famous, Goliath wasn't the only giant he fought. David was one of the mighty men amongst his legendary mighty men: 2 Samuel 23:9 "...among the Three was Eleazar son of Dodai, a descendant of Ahoah. Once Eleazar and David stood together against the Philistines when the entire Israelite army had fled...." Yes, Eleazar and David fought the Philistine army by themselves and won the battle for Israel. It was a similar feat to Shammah's in 2 Samuel 23:11-12 "Next in rank was Shammah son of Agee from Harar. One time the Philistines gathered at Lehi and attacked the Israelites in a field full of lentils. The Israelite army fled, but Shammah held his ground in the middle of the field and beat back the Philistines." David's mightiest warrior, Jashobeam killed 300-800 enemies in a single battle with his spear (1 Chronicles 11:11 says 300 and 2 Samuel 23:8 says 800). David and his mighty men show how far black/Israelite men have fallen from what we use to be but as per Zechariah 12:8, we will be as mighty as they were again, even "like the angel of YAH who goes before [us]!" Remember Joel 2:4-11 "The appearance of them is as the appearance of horses; and as horsemen, so do they run. Like the noise of chariots on the tops of the mountains do they leap, like the noise of a flame of fire that devours the stubble, as a strong people set in battle array. At their presence the peoples are in anguish; all faces are waxed pale. They run like mighty men; they climb the wall like men of war; and they march every one on his ways, and they break not their ranks. Neither does one thrust another; they march every one in his path; and they burst through the weapons, and break not off their course. They leap upon the city; they run upon the wall; they climb up into the houses; they enter in at the windows like a thief. The earth quakes before them; the heavens tremble; the sun and the moon are darkened, and the stars withdraw their shining. And YAH utters His voice before His army; for His camp is very great; for he is strong that executes His word; for the Day of YAH is great and very terrible; and who can abide it? Yet even now, says YAH, turn you unto Me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning: and rend your heart, and not your garments, and turn unto YAH your Father; for He is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and abundant in lovingkindness, and repents Him of the evil." Yes, running upon walls and being YAH's battle axe (Jeremiah 51:20-23) -- that is what the Israelites/black slave descendants will do when YAH returns to redeem us. "He (YAH) gives power to the faint; and to them that have no might He increases strength. Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall: but they that wait upon YAH shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint." (Isaiah 40:29-31)
