DUC:5 Years Later - Truth, Transparency, and the Black Future
Yo, what’s good, people? Welcome back to another raw, no-fluff episode of Da Urban Conservative, where we cut through the noise and speak the truth with no filter. I’m your host, and today we’re not ducking—we’re diving headfirst into a conversation we gotta keep alive.
It’s been five years since the murder of George Floyd. Five years since the world saw a man’s life squeezed out under the knee of a system we been screaming about for decades. His death cracked the world open—but what’s changed since?
Today, we’re talking two things: truth and transparency. Not just about what happened then—but what’s happening now. In Minnesota. Across the country. And deep inside the Black community. Buckle up, because this one ain’t for the faint of heart.
Let’s be real: the streets exploded in 2020. People marched, chanted, cried, prayed. There was fire. There was pain. There was unity—but also confusion. Then, after the dust settled… what?
Some laws passed. Some funding came. Companies threw up black squares on Instagram. But five years later, we still out here asking the same questions. Still watching body cam footage go viral. Still burying brothers. Still explaining to our kids why their skin is seen as a threat.
See, truth is, George Floyd’s death wasn’t a spark—it was an alarm. But alarms don’t fix the fire. They just wake you up.
And now that we’re awake, what are we building?
That brings me to the hard part. See, we always talking about systemic oppression—and that’s real. It’s real as hell. But if we gon’ scream about the system, we gotta be just as loud about what we’re not doing for ourselves.
How do we empower the Black community… when most of us ain’t never been taught about generational wealth?
How do we build a self-sufficient Black economy… when we don’t trust each other enough to support Black businesses unless they go viral?
How do we talk about power, when we still rent our neighborhoods, not own ‘em?
We out here wearing brands but ain’t building legacy. We talk about the culture, but who’s funding it? Who’s owning it?
Let’s talk transparency: a lot of us were never taught how to stack wealth, how to invest, how to build a portfolio, or even how to open a trust for our kids. We weren’t taught about land, equity, intellectual property, or cooperative economics. And yeah, that’s by design—but knowing that now, what we gon’ do with that knowledge?
This is the crossroads, y’all. The memory of George Floyd ain’t supposed to just live in murals. It’s supposed to live in motion. Action. Education. Ownership. Otherwise, his death becomes a moment—not a movement.
We got too many smart, powerful Black folks out here playing small ‘cause we scared of outgrowing the trauma. We hold on to pain like it’s a badge—but where’s the plan?
Let’s build schools that teach economics. Let’s raise kids who know their credit score before they memorize a rap lyric. Let’s pool resources. Let’s be the bank. Let’s build houses, not just hashtags.
This ain’t about blaming. This ain’t about excuses. This is about confronting reality—and using that as fuel.
We talk about unity, but truth is, we fractured. We competitive where we should be collaborative. We quick to cancel, slow to mentor. We waiting for leaders, instead of being one.
And I ain’t exempt—I’m talking to myself too. Every one of us gotta pick up a brick. Every one of us gotta unlearn the lies we inherited and relearn the truth they buried.
So what’s the takeaway, five years later?
It’s this: George Floyd’s death shook the world. But if we don’t build something from that quake, then all we did was mourn.
We gotta move from protest to progress—from pain to power.
final words
This is Da Urban Conservative. Where we keep it gritty, we keep it honest, and we damn sure keep it moving. Remember—truth and transparency. That’s the only way we rebuild.
Stay woke, stay working, and stay building.
Until next time, peace.
