James Cook is a criminal defense attorney specializing in felony cases and firearm law. His firm is located in Colorado Springs, CO but his services have been sought out in counties all over Colorado. James graduated from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 2006, and Western New England University School of Law in 2010. He worked at the 4th Judicial District Attorney's Office in Colorado Springs from 2009-2013. In 2013 he left the District Attorney's office and entered private practice, and in 2020 James opened his own solo practitioner firm. As a lifelong hunter and competitive shooter, James has always taken an interest in firearms and the laws surrounding them. In 2013 he opened Cook's Gun Repair and Customizing, a full service gunsmithing shop in Colorado Springs. Through his work at the shop, James began focusing on suppressors, short barreled rifles, and other items covered under the National Firearms Act, and specializes in writing NFA Trusts to own these items and estate issues involving them. James has taken a strong advocacy role for the second amendment and is currently serving as Director of Legal Affairs for the Colorado Federal Firearms License Association, and is the lead attorney for Firearms Legal Protection in Colorado.
