Officer Uses Lethal Force After Suspect Attempts to Grab Gun

On May 09, 2025, shortly after 12:00 p.m., an officer was dispatched to the 2600 block of North 1604 West for a theft. Upon arrival the officer contacted the suspect outside the location where the suspect physically attacked the officer. The officer used his pepper spray to subdue the suspect, but it was ineffective. The suspect attempted to grab the officer’s gun at which time the officer unholstered his weapon and fired several shots, striking the suspect. Life-saving measures were performed on the suspect, and he was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. The officer sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene. No other officers or bystanders were injured.
