Prelude to a Kiss

This 1938 ballad was written by Duke Ellington during the height of his fame. He used several chromatic cadences along with rising and falling semitones, which are uncharacteristically complex for Ellington's era. It was an especially experimental piece, employing a surprising lack of melodious phrasing, which was the common factor among most other pieces of that "Tin Pan Alley" time. Enjoy!
