Written in 1932, this song was a single originally performed without words by Toby Hardwick, Ellington's alto saxophonist. Irving Mills later wrote words for the tune, but they were "...not entirely fitted to [Ellington's] original conception". The Duke had written the song with his grade school teachers in mind, who were "sophisticated ladies" in his mind, but the song was adapted to include the lyrics nonetheless. Enjoy!
