As Israel continues its siege on the Gaza Strip - it's also putting pressure on the Occupied West Bank, with increasing raids and expanding illegal settlements. The Israeli government has just approved 22 illegal settlements on Palestinian land in the occupied West Bank. The UN says Israel demolished more than 1,700 Palestinian buildings and homes -- and seized 24 square kilometers of land last year. Palestinians need Israeli military permits to build any structure in sixty-one percent of the occupied West Bank - those are rarely approved.

Al Jazeera's Nida Ibrahim says the increase in illegal settlements is the largest in decades.

Several parts of northern Gaza have been issued with forced evacuation orders by the Israeli army.

But Palestinians in one neighborhood of Gaza City are refusing to leave, after months of constantly being moved.

Al Jazeera’s Moath al Kahlout reports.

Dr. Mohamed Salha, director of Al-Awda Hospital in northern Gaza, says Israeli forces forced the evacuation of the last functioning hospital in the region under threat of bombing. Patients were carried on foot, roads were blocked, and medical supplies destroyed. He warns of rising deaths and disease as Gaza’s health system collapses.

Al Awda Hospital, one of the few remaining operational medical facilities in northern Gaza, has now gone completely out of service. Dr. Mohammed Salha, the hospital's director, confirmed this is the first time in over 600 days of war that the facility has entirely ceased operations.

Israeli forces have shot and wounded at least 20 Palestinians as they tried to collect food at a distribution site. Crowds were gathered near the Netzarim Corridor when shots were fired, sending them fleeing. There have been similar scenes of desperation in several locations throughout the week. At least 10 Palestinians have been killed trying to collect food.
