Mi beat Pbks in the eliminator match of IPL- 25
The Eliminator Match of Men’s Tata IPL-2025 was played between Gujarat Titians and Mumbai Indians at Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium Mullanpur New Chandigarh on 30th May,2025. In this match Mumbai Indians defeated Gujarat Titians by 20 runs. In this match Mumbai Indians won the toss and opted to bowl first.
Mumbai Indians while batting first scored 228 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in 20 overs and gave target of 229 runs to Gujarat Titians to win. In reply Gujarat Titians made 208 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in 20 overs and lost the match by 20 runs.
Mumbai Indians while batting first started well and their new opening pair of Rohit Sharma and Jonny Bairstow were going on with great guns at the score of 84 runs in 7.2 overs.
Jonny Bairstow playing his first match of this edition played a gem of innings of 47 runs from 22 balls hitting 4 fours and 3 sixes. He was first to go out caught by Gerald Coetzee of the bowling of Sai Kishore.
Then Rohit Sharma with Surya Kumar Yadav continued the onslaught on Gujarat bowlers and added 59 from 34 balls for the 2nd wicket and laid solid foundation for the big score.
Surya Kumar Yadav was second wicket to fall caught brilliantly by Washington Sundar of the bowling of Sai Kishore and contributed quickfire 33 runs from 20 balls hitting 1 four and three sixes.
On other side Rohit Sharma was going on with great guns and added 43 runs from 22 balls with Tilak Verma for the third wicket.
But Rohit Sharma was third wicket to fall after scoring magnificent 81 runs from 50 balls hitting 9 fours and 4 sixes. He was out at the score of 186 runs in 16.4 overs setting solid stage for the Mumbai to pile up big total. He was out trying to further accelerate the score and was caught by Rashid Khan of the bowling of Prasidh Krishna.
Tilak Verm was fourth wicket to fall after playing a gem of innings of 25 runs from 11 balls hitting three sixes.He was caught by Kusal Mendis of the bowling of Mohd Siraj.
Naman Dhir also got out after contributing valuable 9 runs from 6 balls hitting 1 six. Naman Dhir was removed by Prasidh Krishna caught by Rashid Khan on the fourth ball of 19th over of the innings.
Then Hardik Pandya launched the last onslaught by hitting 3 towering sixes in the last over the innings which helped Mumbai to reach to big score of 228 runs. Hardik Pandya scored quickfire 22 runs from 9 hitting 3 sixes and remained not out. Mitchell Santner also remained not out with out scoring.
For Gujarat two wickets each were taken by Prasidh Krishna and Sai Kishore. One wicket was taken by Mohd Siraj. Mumbai Indians scored 228 runs for 5 wickets in 20 overs and gave target of 229 runs to Gujarat Titians to win.
While chasing the target Gujarat Titians did not start well and lost the wicket of inform Shubman Gill on the fourth ball of the very first over of the innings. He was out LBW of the bowling of Trent Boult after contributing only one run.
The other opener Sai Sudharsan with Kusal Mendis tried to consolidate the innings and manged to add 64 runs for the second wicket with Kusal Mendis. But Kusal Mendis was second wicket to fall, hit wicket to Mitchell Santner. He made 20 runs from 10 balls hitting 1 four and 2 sixes.
Sai Sudarshan continued the onslaught with Washington Sunder and added 84 runs from 44 balls for the third wicket.At this stage it looked as if Gujarat will achieve the target easily. But Jasprit Bumrah then bold Washington Sunder through an electrifying Yorker and brought back Mumbai into the game.
Washington Sunder made 48 runs from 24 balls hitting 5 fours and 3 sixes. After the fall of wicket of Sai Sudharshan, Mumbai sealed the match. Sai Sudharshan was fourth to go out after contributing well made 80 runs from 49 balls which included 10 fours and 1 six. He was bold by Richard Gleeson.
Then Trent Boult removed dangerous looking Sherfane Rutherford caught by Tilak Verma after contributing 24 runs. Rahul Tewatia made 16 runs and Shahrukh Khan contributed 13 runs.
For Mumbai Trent Boult took two wickets and one wicket each was taken by Jasprit Bumrah, Richard Gleeson, Mitchell Santner and Ashwani Kumar.
Gujarat Titians could score 208 runs only for the loss of 6 wickets in 20 overs and fell short by 20 runs. Rohit Sharma was given the Player of the Match award. Mumbai Indians qualified for the Qualifier 2nd match to be played with Punjab Kings. Gujarat played well this season but with loss their journey ended in this Edition of IPL.
