Obese Patients in Surgery

My first encounter in anatomy class involved dissecting a cadaver who was significantly overweight. Cutting through the extensive adipose tissue was challenging, a reality surgeons increasingly face today. 🩺 Excess body fat complicates surgeries, extending anesthesia time and elevating infection risks, particularly when tissues are exposed for long periods. Retracting this tissue, especially in orthopedic cases like hip replacements, demands significant effort and highlights the impact of patient health on surgical procedures.
