While traditionally, extensive coral reef development in the southwestern sector of Sri Lanka has been poor due to heavy rainfall and sedimentation, this discovery at Bambalapitiya (within the Port City area) is a positive development, showcasing the potential for coral recovery and growth even in urbanized coastal areas with proper management.
