Deuteronomy 1

In this video, we're going over an introduction of Deuteronomy 1 and the first chapter. It's a retelling of the Israelites leaving Mt. Sinai and going to the edge of Canaan, the first time.

We get the name for the book of Deuteronomy from Greek, for "Second Law", or "Repitition of the Law". The book is written in a similar fashion to treaties of the day, which would go over the laws, standards, and stipulations that a king had (in this case, YHWH) would have over his subjects. This took place in the area around Sinai.
