Today June 6, 2025 at 12:00 pm on OCP JJ Humphrey will be sharing updates on the Department of Corrections. The big story this week is numerous reports of deaths. In the last ten days we have had reports of deaths at Joseph Harp, Dick Conner, Lexington and Allen Gamble. Plus assaults on officers continue at an alarming rate. How has the Administration recently claimed to reduce violence by 14%? Where are they getting their numbers?JJ is hearing rumors that the senate is discussing a resolution to remove Director Harpe. We fully support any type of resolution but a resolution would have little effect. The Governor would have to fire him or legislators would have call a special session, neither is likely to occur. But a resolution would send a message of no confidence and that certainly needs to happen. Why are we getting out of private prisons and now privatizing all our services? DOC appears to be firing employees with Kitchens and it sounds like possibly other services like canteens. DOC likes play on words using a more gentle term like “down sizing.” Why are we privatizing and why does Harpe treat employees like disposable trash? Does anyone know why Harpe is moving large amounts of each facilities budgets to OSP? Seems odd and with this director who knows.
