What exactly is an ASSET PROTECTION TRUST?

TAKE A RIDE . . . with Fearless Floyd and what exactly is an Asset Protection Trust (APT) is a trust vehicle that holds an individual's assets with the purpose of shielding them from creditors, taxation, divorce, and bankruptcy on the beneficiary.
It separates the beneficial enjoyment of trust assets from their legal ownership, allowing the beneficiaries to enjoy the benefits of the assets without holding legal title to them.

This type of trust is particularly useful for individuals in high-risk occupations or those with significant wealth who want to protect their assets from potential lawsuits or creditor claims.

By transferring ownership of assets to the trust, the assets are considered owned by a different entity, making them harder to seize through legal judgments.

There are different types of asset protection trusts, including domestic and foreign trusts. Domestic asset protection trusts can be established in the 20 states that permit them and are irrevocable but allow the creator some control over the trust.
