Welcome to album review Tuesdays and tonight we are going deep beneath the earth once again with COLDNIGHT-Waterfall Of Suicides which is a one woman ambient black metal project from Bogota Columbia now before we get into the review I am going to give you guys the limited background origin I could find on the project.

Coldnight is a Black metal solo-project from Colombia, lead by the woman known as Hypothermia and was created during the summer of 2008.
The band started of as a Depressive Black metal project and Hypothermia recorded the first full-length, "My Dying Soul", in 2008 but it didn't see the light of day until 2010. During this time, Hypothermia also slightly changed the sound of the project to a more ambient-sounding approach, describing her music as "Ambient Depressive Metal"

So the album opens up with “Dawn Of Forgotten Souls” and this is a very strong dark ambient composition with some frighteningly dark chilling piano/keyboard melodies of sheer melancholic despair and cold hopeless isolation and the emotional depth to this track is astounding. The track continues to unfold itself like the passing of time and the way its embrace envelopes you with its darkness and pain is so well composed that it begins to merge itself with you. The atmosphere is so real and compelling and it becomes very hard to stop listening even though its so dark and hopeless, but its also very serene and beautiful with the choice of arrangements and compositional brilliance and I can see why she decided to take a more dark ambient approach, though there are still “metal elements” on Waterfall Of Suicides, the fact that she went this direction is much more haunting, compelling and depressive. A truly remarkable opener here guys!

Next up we have “Waterfall Of Suicides” her pseudonym suites her so well because the darkness and emotion that emits from this composition is so breathtaking and beautiful that it will make you love dying and want death without any fear of leaving the mortal coil behind. Life almost becomes a distant primordial memory within the walls of this track because of how ancient the whole atmosphere actually is. How deep this track goes is far beyond most peoples comprehension and the audience for this kind of dark ambient will be very limited or at least I haven’t found many people who love this kind of music. But if you are someone who does then what you will find here is an astoundingly compelling journey of darkness, coldness and beauty that will allow you to be completely taken away from this mortal world and enjoy it while its happening. Its simplistic minimalistic approach is very hypnotic as well and will keep your attention the entire time. This is another killer track!

Next up we have “Torments Of Memory” and of course like the titles namesake the music definitely illustrates these emotional voids of pain and nothingness all while the cold fog of despair fills the room and there’s no fucking chance of you escaping its grasp, reflective and introspective it often becomes and being one with your own memories and trials of life can become quite difficult, but at the same time if you can find the strength to face them all head on then the music itself will actually become therapeutic and tranquil which I believe is the whole point of expression with this release and the way that it moves through you whilst listening and experiencing its emotional complexities and minimalistic hypnotic dirges of dark ambience is absolutely incredible. Each track is like a distant voice echoing on the frail fragments of hope howling from the past and its torment and beauty are intertwined so it never quite reaches the point of "giving up on itself” but this surely isn’t going to be an experience for just anyone of course. This is another excellent dark ambient track.
