Welcome to album review Tuesdays here on the channel and tonight we are going deep into the Australian underground once again with an obscure one man black metal act (im on a cassette reviewing kick as of late because I have so many of them) Yes folks we are having a look at MOON-Caduceus Chalice. Moon is from Australia as well now Moon is a Raw/Atmospheric Black Metal project formed by one who goes by Misasmyr and started in 2007. So I have tried to find more information as to the origins of the project but I have been unsuccessful. Moon has released 5 demos,2 EP’s, 2 Splits and 3 Full-lengths so he has been quite prolific since 2007, Currently I only own one album from him but I plan on getting more of course as he is one of my favorite black metal artists.

So lets get into the review now shall we?
So the album opens with the track “In Shadow” and we are immediately taken into the dark abyss of the nethervoid with this ominous dark keyboard melodies and a strong sense of compositional emphasis on creating an unsettling sense of darkness and nothingness that emits from the ambience of the murky buried keyboards that sound like theyre being played within a dark cathedral and this effect works really well at conveying its dark mystical atmosphere and sheer blackness… excellent dark ambient track

Next up we have forest Samhain which is an immediate reminder of why lo-fi atmospheric black metal is so fucking important in its delivery because the ice cold guitars serve as the blizzarding icy cold atmospheric textures and serve as the backwall of the forward melodic driven keyboards and the abysmal howled vocals that are drenched in reverb to give the most unsettling dark hopeless atmosphere possible and the ancient memories and emotions this conjures is absolutely astounding, the compositions here are very nostalgic and harken back to primitive times especially from a cosmic perspective and that’s what this track really invokes there is a strong sense cosmic nothingness and lifeless coldness echoing from beyond the void of the living and the emotions definitely convey these elements through the vocals. Killer fucking song here guys!

Next up is the track “Beneath” which is a faster double bass driven hypnotic atmospheric black metal track that pulls you deeper into its lifeless cold isolation and cosmic nothingness and mysticism the guitars are colder on this one but the drums can be heard a lot better. This album also invokes a very surrealistic dreamscape atmosphere as well I am pretty sure he uses a drum machine which is fine for this kind of black metal as it serves to make the music even colder and more lifeless this one really sounds like its being played by spirits and wraiths as the cold guitars and tortured atmospheric vocals sound like cries and howls from the dead and it really succeeds in this merit as well and while this isn’t depressive black metal it certainly has a very cold, oppressive and claustrophobic atmosphere of cosmic abandon and the mystery of nothingness within those elements and the soundscapes emit these concepts and emotions very well on this track as well. Another killer song!
