A gator is found swimming in a Florida pool
In Florida, it is relatively common to find reptiles—especially alligators and snakes—in residential swimming pools. This is due to the combination of warm weather, abundant vegetation, and the proximity of many homes to bodies of water such as lakes, swamps, and canals, which are natural habitats for these animals.
During hot weather or after heavy rains, reptiles may seek cooler places or new routes to travel, which can lead them into backyards and pools. Alligators, in particular, are known to show up in these areas as they move between water sources.
Florida wildlife authorities often receive calls from residents reporting such encounters. In most cases, wildlife control specialists are dispatched to safely remove the animal.
Homeowners are advised to maintain proper fencing around pools, keep gates closed, and remain alert—especially if they live near natural areas. Although these encounters can be surprising, they are part of coexisting with wildlife in a state like Florida.
