Welcome to album review tuesdays here on the channel and tonight we are having a look at an obscure underground black metal band, With Viking Crown. This is another band with Phillip H Anselmo, Killjoy of Necrophagia and Stephanie Opal Weinstein. Viking Crown is a black metal project in the Darkthrone vein formed by Phil Anselmo of Pantera and Killjoy of Necrophagia. The final member is Phil's ex-wife Opal. Their debut album was also the first release on Killjoy's own Baphomet Records. Phil decided to put the project to an end after the third release, The band released one demo, two full-lengths and one split album with Necrophagia. Stephanie was married to Phil between 2001 and 2004 as well.

Alright so lets get into the review shall we?

So the album opens with some really dark drumming and ominous keyboard ambience with some voice sampling from a film speaking about how the person is the first born son of satan and the track is called Sons of Sadus, and id really love to know where the hell the voice sampling is from because I want to see this fucking movie. Anyways it’s a cool dark ambient ritualistic piece that sets the tone for the album. Solid intro

Next up is the title track Innocence From Hell. This is 2:14 seconds of nothing short of raw, hateful blasting chaos and insanity that is definitely in the vein of Darkthrone and I can certainly see where the influences came from. This also has some incredible dark evil keyboard work as well. One thing I will also note here is the production is raw and filthy the way black metal should be. Vocally Killjoy sounds like he is on the verge of pure diabolical evil and sinister vile deeds. The guitar work is incredible and dark and theres some incredible lead solo work here as well… Opal’s keyboards definitely add a great deal of atmosphere and a true sense of darkness and evil. Killer song here

Next up is The Burning Embers Of Mockery which has an amazing dark keyboard opening that sets the mood for a depressing trip straight into madness and hell and the guitar work and bass and drums really set this into motion as the vocals really add to the overall atmosphere and pure evil of this fucking song to new levels. There is something really beautiful behind all this darkness and ugly primal attacks of raw vile distortion and misery though and if you’re a person who knows how to find the beauty within its dark walls of blackness and hatred then you'll hear it and feel it, This is some of the purest form of expressionism I've heard from Phil Anselmo and Killjoy AKA Frank Pucci and the duo really knew how to create something original and dark beyond comprehension, Opal Enthroned’s sense of futility and fascination with death and darkness really takes center stage on a lot of this album as well because her keyboard work is so in tune with what's going on that its fucking immaculately crafted and done with perfection! This is an absolute classic and I love it to death!
