Welcome to album review Tuesdays here on music of destruction. So tonight I am reviewing an absolute classic from 1971 and if you don’t know who the fuck this band is? Then get the fuck off of this channel now! Tonight we are having a look at Black Sabbath-Master Of Reality now this album was released in 1971 on Warner Bros Records and I gotta say man that this is among my favorite Black Sabbath albums.

I find that a lot of people don’t really talk about this record and im not sure why. Even the band themselves are quite modest when they discuss it, almost as if they feel like it’s not some of their best work. Well make no mistake about it because this album is some of their best work in my opinion. Now of course you might not share the same opinion as myself? And that’s completely fine with me! The Line-up on Master Of Reality is as follows:
Tony Iommi-Lead Guitar
Geezer Butler-Bass Guitar
Ozzy Osbourne-Lead Vocals
Bill Ward-Drums

So the album opens with “Sweet leaf” which has someone coughing on what I assume to be a marijuana toke and the doom laden slow paced stoner riffing surrounds you in a cloud of bong smoke and chill somber lava lamp ambiance which makes the song feel like you’re actually stoned and relaxing in this bong smoked atmosphere. Drum work and bass highlight these tones and feeling very well. Ozzy’s vocals are of course in full passion and conviction here..

though this sure isn’t black Sabbath at their darkest point yet, this song is definitely all about escapism and peace from a drug induced haze that marijuana can provide. I know I use to be a huge pothead. You can certainly tell where bands like Electric Wizard and Sleep got their influences from. This is classic downtempo stoner doom metal/rock. The song picks up in tempo and shifts between many different psychedelic nuances and peaks and valley’s as well. This is an absolute stellar opener and begins the album quite well! Killer song!

Next up is After Forever (Including The Elegy)
And this one opens up with a rather upbeat tone and riff as it breaks into its main doom laden downtempo stoner rock haze and the bass and drum work is impeccable and immaculately crafted. I mean jesus Christ if anyone denies that Black Sabbath are the creators of heavy metal? You need your heads examined. There was nothing like this out in 1971 other than Judas Priest and Iron Maiden.

I mean these 3 bands are what really took metal into all of its different directions and innovation. Black Sabbath were among the first to play “doom metal” and every fucking doom metal artist owes their music to black Sabbath. Because all the elements of the genre are to be found within the frame work of Black Sabbath’s music and this song is no exception This is some sick classic heavy metal and stoner hard rock and the feeling you get from this song is one of positivity and good vibes. Great song here as well!

Next up we one of the bands most iconic songs with “Children Of The Grave” and man if you don’t know this one? Fuck dude you are not metal at all. This is a driving heavy doom laden/stoner rock masterpiece with profound riffing,bass, vocals and drum work and Ozzy’s emotional lyrics and delivery make you feel every ounce of what the song is all about and this is one of their more serious toned songs on the album. This one shifts tempos away from the upbeat feel of the record and into a far more serious darker tone that really hits home and will induce you to think and feel everything happening here and its done in fucking spades. g
