Guanajuato said no to abortion

Life prevailed. They failed to decriminalize killing babies in their mother's womb. But now it said enough. It managed to be faithful to its principles instead of succumbing to pressure.

The Congress of the state of Guanajuato, Mexico, rejected a proposal to decriminalize abortion, thereby keeping it illegal in the state. The vote was very close, with 19 legislators against and 17 in favor. This outcome represents a setback for the ruling party, Morena, which has promoted the legalization of abortion in several states across the country. Despite political and judicial pressure, including rulings from the Supreme Court, the Guanajuato Congress chose to maintain the current legislation that protects life from conception. The National Action Party (PAN), which has a strong presence in the state, played a key role in blocking the initiative, reaffirming a conservative stance in the face of the advancing progressive agenda on abortion.
