Typical problem when you using the washer machine and suddenly it stay in the same cycle , rinse , or washing , it just wont advance .
That means you timer is not functioning properly , maybe because the gear inside broke .
This gear are made up from plastic , and overtime they turn yellow and the plastic degrades until it breaks , you can certainly opening and order the gears by size or replaced the timer for a new one ( usually cost between 40 to 50% pf a new washer machine) or you can get an used timer for around 60/70 bucks.
This washer machine is 17 years old , now the timer will give me another 10 years at least , for only 72 bucks .
I couldn't afford a new washer machine right now , something similar to the one i have would have cost me 750$ minimum .
