Now for those of you who do not know MORITIFICATION are from Moorrabin Victoria Australia and formed back in 1990. Now many would argue that this band put australian death metal on the map and it would be hard to argue this point because these guys have been around for a very long time. One thing I will also point out is that this is a christian death metal band and have a very interesting take on death metal. The band sings about the destruction of evil, Heavy metal and Christianity.
The Line up on Triumph Of Mercy is as follows
Steve Rowe Vocals, Bass
Keith Bannister Drums
Lincoln Bowen Guitars

So lets just get right into it shall we? The Album opens with At War With War and this has some intense blastbeats and some crazy punk like bass and drumming along with the blasting.. Steves vocals range from an almost blackened death metal style to an outright punk rock snarl which gives this album a very suicidal tendencies like feel.. even the riffing, drums and vocals cross between all out death metal and go into some really intense groove but also has some punk like elements that I really appreciate and one thing ill also note here is the production. I love that bass tone and the overall deep putrid raw tone of the guitars and drumming as well. This opener is thunderous and intense but also groovy as hell with those awesome punk elements that make Mortification quite unique!

Next up we have the 7 min epic title track “Triumph Of Mercy” And this is another classic 90s DM groove driven stomping powerhouse. Great double bass work and some amazing groove going on here and I absolutely adore it to death. That chunked out bass playing underneath everything just adds to its intensity. Blasting cacophonic drumming and more of steves thrashing/punk like vocals add a whole new dimension of variation and depth to the music being offered here. There is almost a triumphant sounding guitar tone being played here at times as well.

A lot of people found steves vocals silly or weird on this album. Yet ive always found them to be very unique and im glad they arent the typical death metal vocals. This is a song all about the triumph of god. I guess you gotta take positivity where you can get it. While im not a christian myself I have nothing against this band as Mortification were at the forefront of 90s death metal out of australia and you have to give them credit where credit is do. This is a solid song as well!

Next up we have Welcome to The Palodrome and this is a decent song overall with some pretty good innovative guitar tones and riffs played throughout and one is a lot more groove death metal oriented but of course has a lot of those punk like vocals and riffs being splashed in for good measure with some pretty decent hardcore riffing in the track as well. Though I think some of the incorporations of many different styles all being thrown into a blender and just placed wherever and whenever kind of hurts the album overall. I mean these ideas, while not terrible in concept often fail to deliver in theory. This isn’t bad music at all.. I Just feel like its all over the place and therefore the cohesiveness is lacking in certain places. This is however a decent song.

Next up we have From your side and again we get more of that groove/death/hardcore/punk thrown into a blender with some punk meets death metal vocals and it certainly is well executed but as I stated earlier I feel like these ideas could have been executed much better and perhaps not so overly emphasized in so many ways all over the album which give it a real lack of structure and solidarity overall, perhaps its this chaotic structuring and approach that might make a lot of people enjoy the album as a whole?

I feel like the album could have benefitted from a lot more thought and time put into the execution and ideas being brought forth. This is supposed to be a death metal album and instead what we get here is thrash meets punk with some death metal elements and im not really sure what they were going with here… perhaps they really wanted to do something different and rightfully so. Unfortunately these ideas often fall short of establishing and sort of memorable moments or longevity on this album. Unfortunately the album follows suit for the rest of the tracks and they arent really worth mentioning.
