▶️Leviathan Tentacles Of Whorror Review◀️

So todays review is of a modern classic, with Leviathan-Tentacles Of Whorror released in 2004 on Moribund Records. Leviathan was formed in 1998 by the sole member of the band Jef Whitehead under the guise of the entity "wrest".

Leviathan has been quite prolific putting out many demos and compilations even before his first full length release with "The Tenth Sub-Level of Suicide in 2003. So, let's just get into this review of Tentacles of Whorror.

The album opens with the absolute insanely emotionally charged "What Fresh hell" and that's what it sounds like... HELL. Bombastic fast drumming, ear shredding flesh slicing guitars, bass and of course, Wrests absolute manically hate filled vocals of pure fucking misanthropic despair and rage. The track takes you into extreme depths of sonic despair and rage and intense emotions of pain and anguish.

Wrest is a more than an adequate drummer as well with tons of double bass, blasting and fills that incorporate themselves into the flesh ripping riffs of torment and anguish, it bleeds into an ambient section of hollow despair with wrest crying out in despair and hatred. Then it blasts us again with more rage and painfully filled riffing, drumming and bass before concluding this sonic trip into the nightmare of wrests mind. Excellent fucking track here!

Next up we have "Heir To The Noose Of Ghoul" and more frantic fast blasting from hell, wrest is probably at some of his most angry on this album. This song takes us deeper into his suicidal misanthropic darkness and loathing for not only himself but the entire fucking world as a whole and the riffs, drums and bass and his absolute wretched vocals spew forth like a sonic wave of terror that destroys anyone it comes into contact with and we have no fucking way of stopping him.

This is what metal should sound like. Pure fucking fire, rage, conviction, hate and passion. I mean after all isn't that the fucking point of extreme expressionism? What is metal afterall if it's not about dark emotions that we, and the artist are looking to feel theraputic cathartic release from?

This is exactly what black metal is about. Other genres are passionate sure, but when it comes to the artists psyche and their bleak world view and downright disgust for humanity? It saturates right into your fucking soul with black metal and i wouldn't have it any other godamned way. Excellent fucking track here as well!

Next up we have Cut with the night, Into mine heart and my god, thats exactly what it sounds like with blizzarding buzzsawing guitars swaying in dissonance leaving you lifeless on the godamned ground saturated in complete anguish and pain. This is when the album ventures into some of its most darkened corridors of pain and misanthropic glory. Wrest sounds like he is completely losing his mind on this track and his vocals are of course nothing short of jaw dropping in their emotional intensity and execution.

You can't fake this stuff guys and wrest sure as hell isn't going to make the journey into his nightmarish hell easy. The track seeps into your soul like a poisoned sickness that you become completely enveloped by and you will enjoy that sickness or become disgusted by its presence, either way its there.

What kind of escape do you think you have when it comes to Wrest's painful hateful soundscapes that give you an accurately portrayed journey into his own personal hell? The answer is you don't. You are in for a Descent into some of the deepest bowels of pain and misanthropic anguish ever recorded with this record and if you call yourself a black metal fan then you certainly better be able to take the journey otherwise go back to your dimmu borgir albums.

The track sways into a pounding session of panic and fear stricken terror as the drumming becomes almost ritualistic and the guitar work serves as some soundtrack to the panic and terror as you plummet deeper and deeper into madness. Pure fucking brilliance with this track as well!
