Paul acknowledges that the Roman church is more mature in knowledge of Christ and their ability to admonish one another through scripture. He also feels compelled to remind them that what he has preached to them is from God and not form himself. His point comes in verse 17 when he acknowledges that his success in preaching the word of God only comes through God and what God has poured into him. It is only what God speaks into him that will get taught by him. In short, he only speaks out what God is speaking into him. Paul reminds us that he should be preaching to those gentiles who have not yet seen or heard the word of God.

It is in this message that Paul reminds us for the new and mature Christian we should recite the message that contains only what God is speaking into our hearts about. If we are preaching God’s word we should also be seeking His truth through the Holy Spirit. There should never be a time where a personal opinion gets in the way of God’s word. This element of personal opinion has a way of distracting from the word of God. It is in this distraction that Satan will come in and cause problems within individuals in the church and in most cases will propagate throughout the church body.

With the distractions that we face every day and the constant attacks from Satan and his minions, the ability to stay focused on the word of God is getting more difficult. It is only through the grace of God that we can go to Him with all of our concerns. We can seek the Lord when the attacks are coming and stay strong in God’s word knowing and believing in (Romans 8:28). The attacks will come to us at times on multiple fronts. They come from family, from the job, on the freeway, in the news. There are so many different sources that Satan will use to distract us from reading and preaching the word of God.

As true believers we know that is it through Christ that is in us that we can sustain and overcome these worldly and demonic attacks. When we are filled with the Holy Spirit, it is in these attacks that God will be glorified and praised. It is in Christ who lives in us that we believe we will overcome all the obstacles that get in the way of developing a personal relationship with Christ. There are so many hurting souls that the opportunities to share the word of God seem endless. People are struggling in their relationships with one another and with Christ. Through the struggles we suffer especially in relationships, distraction comes very easy to us. It is only when we stay focused on God and believe that God will heal us and provide the things we need to grow our relationship with Him that we can truly see the light at the end of the tunnel. When we finally understand fully that it is our strong personal relationship with Christ that matters the most that the healing process begins.

Paul and the other apostles believe and lived through their faith in Jesus Christ. There is nothing that is too big for God (Jeremiah 32:17). There are no problems that are impossible for God (Luke 1:37) if we have the faith to believe that through our relationship with God all things become possible. Practicing faith has two components, an individual component and a corporate component. There are times where we need the prayers of our fellow brothers and sisters (corporate) to sustain us and encourage us to stay focused on God. It is through our faith in Jesus (individual) that we have been given new life and were raised from the dead as Christ was raised from the dead (Colossians 2:12).

My prayer is that we would be filled with faith small as a mustard seed so we may see the power, the strength and the glory of our Lord and Savior. That we may experience the true love that God has for each one of us and that through our faith we receive the blessings God has stored for us. The blessings of healings, the blessings righteousness and most of all the blessings of a relationship that will never fail to exist with the Triune God. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ I pray these things. In Jesus Mighty Name Amen! Amen!
