US Marines to deploy to Los Angeles to help quell anti-ICE riots

A battalion of 500 U.S. Marines is being mobilized to Los Angeles to protect federal property and personnel amid violent anti-immigration enforcement protests, Fox News reports.

The Marines, from the 2nd Battalion, 7th Marines at Twentynine Palms, will not perform law enforcement duties, but their rules of engagement remain unclear.

This follows President Trump’s earlier deployment of 2,000 National Guardsmen.

California Governor Gavin Newsom criticized the move as an overreach, filing a lawsuit and calling the escalation “unprecedented,” Fox News has reported.

Protests erupted in response to ICE raids and have resulted in widespread destruction in the city.
