California union leader charged with federal conspiracy counts

David Huerta, president of California’s SEIU, has been charged with interfering with law enforcement during anti-ICE protests in Los Angeles.

He was arrested Friday for allegedly blocking a gate at an ICE staging area and refusing to move when asked by federal officers.

Huerta, who was injured during the arrest and later hospitalized, faces a felony charge of conspiracy to impede an officer and could face up to six years in prison if convicted.

His arrest has sparked backlash from Governor Gavin Newsom and other Democratic leaders, who called him a respected advocate, CBS News has reported.

Protests and ICE raids continued throughout the weekend, with 44 undocumented immigrants arrested.
