The Lord of the Rings - ( Animated Fantasy ) - 1978

A young hobbit, Frodo Baggins, has 'the One Ring to rule them all' that belongs to the Dark Lord Sauron, After consulting the great council in Rivendell. Frodo learns the ring corrupts anyone that owns it.
He volunteers to undertake a perilous journey, with the assistance of eight companions to Mount Doom, in the land of Mordor, the only place where the ring can be destroyed. But the journey will not be easy, as they are perused by Orcs and Ring Wraiths.

This film is adapted , from the volumes, The Fellowship of the Ring and The Two Towers. Director Ralph Bakshi, had made several attempts to produce The Lord of the Rings as an animated film before producer, Saul Zaentz and distributor United Artists provided funding.
The film is notable for its extensive use of rotoscoping, a technique in which scenes are first shot in live-action, then traced onto animation cells.
