Vital Verse: Joseph then answered Pharaoh, saying, “It is not in me; God will give Pharaoh a favorable answer.” Genesis 41:16

Nugget to Nibble: Chapter 41 continues the providential hand of God moving on Joseph behalf. The scene shifts from the prison to the palace. Life in prison represent bondage under the tyranny of a harsh master. Joseph must endure the vile conditions longer since the cupbearer forgot his promise. After two years of toiling in the dark, rugged, and degrading Egyptian prison, assistance comes through a dream. Although the cupbearer forgot, God remembered Joseph. The Lord disrupted the royal monarch sleep with a disturbing dream. Startled by the images in the dream, Pharaoh awoke, but he had another dream after attempting to rest on a second occasion. Proverbs explains, “The king’s heart1 is in the hand of the LORD like channels of water; he turns it wherever he wants” (Proverbs 21:1; cf. Ezra 7:21; Isa 10:6-7; 41:2-4; Dan 2:21; John 19:11). God stirred the mind of the highest authority in Egypt to promote his servant.

Gems from the life of Joseph:
1. Humanity forgets, but God always remembers.
2. Patiently pursue the Lord while anticipating your promotion.
3. Rulers reside under the control of the Lord, who is the King of kings.
