Alright so this sci-fi death metal trip opens with the track "Seizing The Throne" and what immediately stands out to me is the sound and approach because in my opinion THIS is what new death metal should sound like. The production is amazing, because once again we have a production that isn't too clean but also not too raw.

The riffing and drumming and bass remind me of the old school days of the very start of the second wave of death metal right around the 1990 mark but with a very science fiction atmosphere and approach to the lyrics and song structuring and the writing here is very unique and not something that sounds like anything out there in my opinion and there are flashes of what im sure Mike Browning wanted to do with morbid angel over 30 years ago but never had the chance to do so unfortunately.

But the end result is THIS record and that's what matters because this is record stands alone when we talk about modern death metal and the old school approach here works so fucking well in a time when bands are going into trendier and trendier directions because it sells? Comes along something like PARADOX that is a firm reminder that the old school approach and sound is what makes metal so captivating and amazing.

There is a ton of atmosphere on this record as well that give it a really chaotic feel and emotional vibe all throughout the record. Mike's drumming is the star of the show here and the way the guys follow his lead and incorporate their ideas and talent into this make the whole thing a blast of sonic science fiction chaos.
The fact that they decided to use keyboards give it some really chilling effects that are used to add that extra sense of intensity and complexity to the music.
The music becomes very "paradoxal" as well in parts because of how insane and fast the insturmentation gets but then it slows back down to a more slower groove and then speeds back up again with brutal perfection and intensity.

The different nuances that are thrown at you are captivating and engaging as well and something that i can really appreciate because this album never strays too far into "Familiar" territory as each song is so much different than the other.
One other thing this album does so well is re introduce us to a sound that has long been absent in death metal for such a long time and brings in such a strong technical prowess that never borders on become dangerously trendy like this recent surge of what is being labeled as "Modern Technical Death metal".

Well make no mistake about it because this is a far from "modern technical death metal" as you can possibly get and it breathes new life into what real metal is supposed to sound like. Now some might agree some might not agree and i really couldn't give a shit less. This band is incredible and "PARADOX" is a strong middle finger to the modern garbage that plagues so much of todays "metal" and rightfully so when you have a legend like Mike Browning as the brain child of a chaotic death metal masterpiece that takes you in so many different directions.

The way this album approaches so many concepts and nuances simultaneously that it boggles the mind at just how powerful of a creative offering is being brought forth with Nocturnus A.D! This is the sound of pure sonic chaos and Alien like Paradoxes and it makes the album so fucking unique and good that it will make you believe in death metal again.
