Now, what we have here isn't so much a normal run of the mill deathgrind band that is soely bent on brutality for the simple intention of shock value like so many other countless cookie cutter DM bands in the the deathgrind genre. What we have with "The Anthropocene Extinction" is a brutal wake up call to humanity as a whole. This ladies and gentleman is Death Metal with a serious message and tonality. The album art is indicative of a strong sense of misanthropy and also environmental awareness.

As you all may or may not know Cattle Decapitation are vegans. However Josh Elmore and Travis Ryan are the only 2 who are at this time? if the other members are on this record then they have not disclosed it. Now right from the opening moments of the first track "Manufactured Extinct" it becomes very clear what we are in for with this album. Brutal pounding drums sound like the earth itself is waking up from her slumber in a pure fire breathing rage alongside the guitars which serve as her hands of justice swiftly coming down to reign wrath and vengence upon the scum of the human race that has destroyed her land and all of her various beauty and beings that inhabit her.

Travis Ryan is like the vessel of rage fueled misanthropic glory that mother nature herself has filled with all of the pain and misery of all of the animals that die by the millions each day in slughterhouses and endure vicious cruel deeds at the hands of the human race. The serious tonality set by this opening track stirs up emotions of sadness and despair and sorrow. The awareness that this album carries of the reality of humanities disgusting impact on this planet and its various beings? Is one that we may one day reap if we do not change our ways and our cruel ways of life. Their newest album "Death Atlas" (and you can see my review of that album right up there in the corner of the screen. ) carries a sign from death itself if you will in its tonality, execution, pain, hatred, brutality, but also some sense of beauty that was present on that album as well.

The Anthropocene Extinction is an exercise of purging of the human race from this planet in an attempt to not only wake the listener up but also to show everyone that everything is indeed "Not alright" The emphasis on brutality and violence on tracks like The Prophets of loss(featuring Phil Anselmo) by the way. Creates a sense of urgency and anxiety in you because it's serving to open your eyes to the atrocities and greedy cruel acts created by man. Its extremely heavy and definitely carries a tonality of great misanthropic ideology and also sorrow because of the awareness that it might already be too late to save ourselves from ourselves by this point.

That's what this album is, It's a stark brutal contrast of "If we don't get our shit together as a species and stop ruining and destroying everything we touch we are in deep fucking shit" Now whether or not that is too dramatic for some of you or not? You clearly do not know this band and their intentions behind their music. Yes it's art, yes it's music. It is however also the soundtrack to our inevitable downard spiral into all thigns disgusting, atrocious, cruel, greedy and absolutely void of consideration and care for the other beings on this planet and all life contained within it.
