Now, onto the descent into this incredible dark, desolate album that is Xasthur-The Funeral Of Being as i said in my nocturnal poisoning review and you can check that out right up there in the corner of the screen. This is the 2nd chapter of this incredible dark twisted experience and journey into the mind of a soul that has long been dead inside. Perhaps this is too strange of an interpretation and for some it may very well be.

For me it is an intricate journey that i find myself constantly hypnotized by and often enchanted by in its misanthropic suicidal glory and celebration of all things negative. I mean in all honesty this is nothing short of cosmic dejection and complete otherworldly despair that only Malefic is capable of creating and many will be far removed from its musical genius and prowess because it will simply be unlistenable to people who find more enjoyment in music that is easier to stomach, process, digest and comprehend.

I honestly believe that there aren't many other elites in the underground black metal scene that could even come close to what Malefic has achieved throughout Xasthur's illustrious black metal offerings. One might argue however that it can become repetitive and "more of the same" with each release. But let me ask you this, Why the hell are you looking for enjoyable music if you're into black metal in the first place? What you aren't going to find here is new ideas or anything groundbreaking that the common music fan would find enjoyable.

But thats the point, this is after all a genre that prides itself on artistic stagnation with many artists opting for incorporating alot of the same ideas album to album with some new nuances here and there to give it a small sense of variety. but in xasthur's case i really don't think it would have worked nearly as effectively as it does if malefic gave a shit about pleasing people.

No, what you are going to find here is an even darker trip into blackness and desolation and hatred. This is one of Malefic's darkest releases and I often wonder if he is even aware of how shattered and bleak the walls of these "compositions are" and what they are comprised of in this albums case. The production is once again raw, muddy and completely bleak and dark in its atmospheric intensity.

The riffing is not something that your going to "enjoy" unless you know black metal already. They are cold, chilling, terrifying and completely void of hope and peace in any sense of the fucking word. "The Awakening To The Unknown Perception Of Evil" is the opener and that's exactly what it sounds like in my honest opinion and you get completely surrounded by its hypnotic black gaze of atmosphere and intensity with incredibly fast double bass drumming but this feels like a panic attack and a nightmare from hell simultaneously colliding and evaporating your very sense of being.

the mortal coil vanishes away and instantly flashes you into a complete black void of nothingness and terror where everything confuses you yet somehow you hear the call of the insturmentation returning you to sanity but your still trapped in the walls of this icy prison state of consciousness just screaming for a way outyet its hypnotic gaze and trance keep you coming back to it almost like a duality is battling for control over you as you try and make sense of this fucking wretched cold icy black world that you have no fucking clue of how you arrived here!
