Beginning on June 6, 2025, Los Angeles County, California, saw protests erupt in response to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids targeting undocumented immigrants across several city locations. These demonstrations, initially peaceful, escalated into riots on June 6 when protesters clashed with the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) and ICE agents, particularly near the Westlake Home Depot and in areas like Paramount and Compton. The unrest intensified as protesters threw concrete, bottles, and Molotov cocktails, while law enforcement deployed tear gas, pepper spray, flash-bang grenades, and less-lethal munitions. On June 7, President Donald Trump federalized the California National Guard, deploying 2,000 troops, followed by an additional 2,000 and 700 Marines by June 9, citing the protests as a "rebellion" against federal authority. This marked the first such federalization without a governor’s consent since 1965. The riots resulted in widespread vandalism, including graffiti on landmarks like City Hall and the Los Angeles Times building, looting of 23 businesses, and the burning of Waymo self-driving vehicles. By June 10, a curfew was imposed in downtown Los Angeles from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.
