Retired Admiral Robert Burke is underwater today after having been convicted by a jury of multiple counts of bribery, conspiracy to commit bribery, performing acts affecting a personal financial interest and concealing material facts from the United States. Sentencing is set for August of 2025. The Admiral approached a company called Next Jump after the Fat Leonard scandal. The Fat Leonard scandal, for those of you who don't know, was a scandal involving a Malaysian national wherein multiple naval officers were redirecting Navy ships to ports that Fat Leonard controlled, bribing them with prostitutes, drugs, expensive jewelry, and other gifts and trips so that he could get lucrative contracts with the United States Navy. It has been called by many reporters, as the greatest scandal to hit the United States Navy since the end of the Cold War. Following that scandal, the admiral approached a company called Next Jump. He initially contacted Next Jump to provide ethics training to officers in the Navy to avoid another Fat Leonard scandal. He then secured for himself a $500,000 yearly salary after his retirement in addition for steering more contracts to Next Jump. Obviously the training wasn't worth what he paid for.
