SCRIPTURE READING FOR TODAY
Gen 40:16-23

16 When the chief baker saw that Joseph had given the first dream such a positive interpretation, he said to Joseph, “I had a dream, too. In my dream there were three baskets of white pastries stacked on my head.
17 The top basket contained all kinds of pastries for Pharaoh, but the birds came and ate them from the basket on my head.”
18 “This is what the dream means,” Joseph told him. “The three baskets also represent three days.
19 Three days from now Pharaoh will lift you up and impale your body on a pole. Then birds will come and peck away at your flesh.”
20 Pharaoh’s birthday came three days later, and he prepared a banquet for all his officials and staff. He summoned his chief cup-bearer and chief baker to join the other officials.
21 He then restored the chief cup-bearer to his former position, so he could again hand Pharaoh his cup.
22 But Pharaoh impaled the chief baker, just as Joseph had predicted when he interpreted his dream.
23 Pharaoh’s chief cup-bearer, however, forgot all about Joseph, never giving him another thought.

The Word of God To Meditate On Today
Gen 40:16-23- Unlike The Buttler, The Baker Had A Judgmental Dream

The Baker in his dream did not prevent the birds from eating what was meant for Pharaoh. It represents his infidelity in his service. Birds are here a picture of evil powers. Joseph interprets that Pharaoh will also lift up his head, by taking him out of the depths of the jail and hanging him on a tree. Anyone who has been unfaithful in his service to God will be judged. It happens, as Joseph interpreted. Pharaoh lifts up the head of the chief cupbearer and the head of the chief baker. On Pharaoh’s birthday, when he has made a feast for all his servants, he restores the chief cupbearer to his office and hangs the chief baker. Then the question arises: why is the cupbearer received in grace and why is the baker judged? They both have offended (Gen_40:1 ). We have already seen that only those who take the basis of grace are saved and those who want to be saved by their own works are judged and lost. May grace locate you today in Jesus' name!

Father,let Your grace locate me and help me walk in it light all the days of my life in Jesus' name! Eph 2:8-9

8 God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God.
9 Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it.

Only with my eyes shalt I behold And see the wicked receive their rewards. Because I have made the LORD, my refuge, Even the most High, my habitation; There shall no evil befall thee, Neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling. For God shall give his angels charge over thee, To keep thee in all my ways. They shall bear me up in their hands, Lest I dash thy foot against a stone. I shall tread upon the lion and adder: The young lion and the dragon shalt I trample under feet. Because I have set my love upon God, therefore will He deliver me: He will set him on high, because I have known His name. I shall call upon Him, and He will answer me: He will be with me in trouble; He will deliver me, and honour me. With long life will God satisfy me, And shew me His salvation. So shall it be for me and my household throughout this week in Jesus' name!
